ObserIQ Partners with Kitchener Public Library to Deliver Free Workshops on AI Safety and Digital Privacy

Two-part series helps Kitchener residents navigate fraud, data privacy, and responsible tech disposal in the age of AI

April 1, 2026

ObserIQ has teamed up with Kitchener Public Library to deliver a pair of free, community-focused workshops aimed at helping residents protect themselves, their families, and their data in an increasingly AI-driven world. The two sessions, hosted at the Central Library in downtown Kitchener, tackle two of the most pressing digital concerns facing everyday Canadians today: AI-powered fraud and the lifecycle of personal data on aging devices.

Stop the Rush: Protect Yourself and Your Loved Ones from AI Fraud

The first workshop, Stop the Rush, took place on Thursday, April 16, 2026 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. The session focused on the rapidly evolving landscape of AI-enabled scams, from voice cloning and deepfake video calls to sophisticated phishing attempts that use generative AI to mimic trusted contacts.

True to its name, the event encouraged attendees to slow down and think critically before acting on urgent requests, a tactic fraudsters increasingly rely on to bypass their victims' better judgment. The session was designed to be approachable and jargon-free, giving participants of all ages and tech comfort levels practical tools to recognize and shut down scams before they cause harm.

Digital Legacy and Circular Tech

The second workshop, Digital Legacy and Circular Tech, runs Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in Meeting Room C at the Central Library. This session shifts focus to what happens to personal data when devices reach the end of their useful life.

Attendees will learn how to safely wipe data from old phones, laptops, and tablets, and how to securely recycle that hardware to reduce electronic waste and protect themselves from identity theft. With AI systems now capable of extracting and correlating personal information at unprecedented scale, properly handling end-of-life devices has become an essential part of personal digital hygiene.

Registration is free and available online through the Kitchener Public Library website, by phone at 519-743-0271, or in person at any library branch.

A Shared Mission

The partnership reflects a shared commitment between ObserIQ and Kitchener Public Library to make digital literacy accessible to everyone, regardless of their technical background. By meeting community members where they are, in a trusted public space, the workshops aim to demystify some of the most complex and concerning aspects of life in the AI era.

For ObserIQ, the collaboration is part of a broader mission to help individuals and communities take meaningful control over their digital lives. For the library, it's a continuation of its long-standing role as a hub for lifelong learning and civic engagement.

Together, the two workshops form a practical, end-to-end primer on staying safe online: how to spot and stop fraud before it happens, and how to responsibly close the loop on the devices that hold your digital history.
