What is the Recovery Guide?

The Victim Recovery Guide is a free, printable PDF we put together for people who have just been targeted by a scammer. It walks you through exactly what to do in the hours, days, and weeks after a scam: who to call, what to document, how to protect your remaining accounts, and how to begin recovering emotionally.

It is written in plain language, set in large type, and designed to be printed and kept somewhere safe, like a kitchen drawer or a bedside table.

Why it matters

In the moments after realizing you have been scammed, most people freeze. The shame is loud, the panic is louder, and it is genuinely hard to think clearly about what to do next. That is by design. Scammers depend on that paralysis to buy themselves time.

A printed guide cuts through that. Instead of trying to remember advice from a website, or searching through articles while you are upset, you can just open the guide and follow step one. Then step two. You do not have to figure anything out on your own.

It is also useful for family members and community workers who are trying to help someone they love. You do not need to be a tech expert to hand someone the guide and sit with them while they work through it.

If someone you love has been scammed, download a copy for them too. Sometimes the kindest thing you can do is hand a person a piece of paper and say "let's start with step one together."
